Coming from the city I never felt uncomfortable of who I am and never even though about holding hands with my partner or kissing in public. Just to make a note: our public displays of affection are subtle in public not the “they should get a room” kind.
I found myself in the mall about to grab his hand then stopped to think about my surrounds. I pulled back and put myself in the closet while I shopped. I never had holding hands or kissing in public part of a “do” or “not to do” thought process.
My flag is out in 2009 24×7. This year when I’m in the mall, walking on the street, or eating in a restaurant and I want to hold his hand, or kiss him …I will. I’m sure this mind set will have me focusing opportune times to grab his hand or give him a subtle kiss. I will try to contain myself from over exaggerating the moment.
It would be a good idea for all of us to put our flags out and help free all of those who are forced to stay in the closet because stereotype. We are all created equal lets start acting like it.
Looks like Staten Islander’s are going to have to wait a long while for this Ronnie. The Staten Island LGBT Center is still hidden and unexposed.
I just recently found that we have an LGBT center on Staten Island. Well sort of. I went to 25 Victory Blvd and found only one community organization in the building. Community Health Action. A few days later I found out this was the LGBT Center.
No proper signage…No flag… What is this all about? This Center is just saying come out of your closet …and come into ours. Please!!
Put up a sign >> GAY CENTER HERE !!! Put up a FLAG you know …the pretty one, with all of the colors. . Get with it!
